University of Ghana

University of Ghana in Legon, Accra. Our office is actually located not far from here. This is the oldest university in Ghana. Has attractive grounds and striking colonial-style buildings.

The mellow botanical garden (behind the Department of zoology is of special interest to birdwatchers. The Museum of Archaeology has a remarkable collection of ancient beads and finds from excavations in Elmina.
37 Military Hospital’s Canopy of Fruit Bats

A must see! Just 10 minutes drive from the University of Ghana towards Jubilee House (the magnificent seat of the Ghana Government) are fruit bats, which have made their home in trees, straddling the entrance to the hospital. The best time to see these bats and take unforgettable pictures is at dusk, around 6.00-7.00 pm each day, when the bats take to flight and form a cloud of thousands of flying bats.
Aburi Botanical Gardens

A popular weekend retreat with Accra residents is planted with a mixture of labelled local and exotic trees and is home to many birds. Bob Marley’s wife, Rita Marley, has a mansion in Aburi and she lives there. Just 45 min drive from Accra.
Ada Foah Estuary

where the Volta River spectacularly empties into the Atlantic ocean. Has beautiful beach resorts (eg Aquasafari) and is one of the only two marine turtle-viewing sites in Ghana. Ada Foah is about 2 hours’ (120km) drive from Accra.

Kakum National Park
Kakum National Park is home to Africa’s oldest canopy walkway. Hangs above the jungle tree tops below.

Hans Cottage Hotel –
popular lunchtime stop thanks to its platformed restaurant overlooking a pool, dense with crocodiles. Situated 8 km north of Cape Coast on the road to the Kakum National Park

Cape Coast and Elmina Castles are not far to drive to from the Kakum National Park.

Wli Water Falls

Spectacular! Considered the tallest water fall in West Africa. 25 km East of Hohoe, in the village of Wli Agorviefe, in the Vota Region
Agumatsa Wildlife Sanctuary

Home to the colony of cliff-nesting straw-colored fruit bats; located at the site of the Wli Waterfalls
Mount Afadjato/Aduadu

Majestic!The highest point in Ghana. Just 10 minutes’ drive from the Wli Water Falls.
Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary

Home to Ghana’s only habituated population of nominate race C. mona mona monkeys. The monkeys here are well habituated as their counterparts at Buabeng-fiema.
Kpandu Potters

a women’s cooperative that makes hand-mouded pottery, purported to be the finest in Ghana. Located in Kpandu in the Volta region.
Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine

A Hillside shrine to a huge sculpture of Virgin Mary; considered the 3rd biggest christian grotto in the world!. The grotto also has 14 life-size sculptures of scenes depicting the crucifixion of Jesus. Situated at Agbenoxoe, 8 km north of Kpandu
Paga Crocodile Pond

Incredible! Best known for its sacred crocodiles, which are so tame they can be seen and touched at unusually close quarters. Located 20 km north of Navrongo in the Northern Region.
Buabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary, Kintampo Falls, and Mole National Park are top tourist attractions off the highway (Kumasi – Techiman – Kintampo-Damango – Tamale -Navrongo) leading to Paga. Mole is Ghana’s top safari destination; there are thrilling guided walks in search of elephants. Driving Mole is straightforward in a good 4X4.
Nzulezo stilt village

Nzulezo stilt village, near Beyin in the Western Region is the most important tourist attraction in the far West of Ghana! This unique village community of about 500 lives on stilts above water. Arriving at the Ghana wildlife Society office, next to the Beyin beach resort, one can reach Nzulezo by dug out canoe only; and the one-hour ride there is immensely rewarding, passing as it does through the Amansuri wetlands, where one can see plenty of birds.
Nkroful

To make a trip to Nzulezo more worthwhile, one could visit Nkroful, the birthplace of Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president and is the site of a diverting mausoleum and museum where he was buried until his permanent interment in the newer Nkrumah Mausoleum in Accra. Nkroful is 4 km north of Essiama ( a junction town on the main Elubo road 15 km west of Axim in the western region of Ghana.
